Study Examines Police Fatality Rates

Governing magazine recently explored officer death rates in all 50 states, utilizing five years of memorial fund and law enforcement employment data. Total law enforcement fatalities fell sharply in 2012 – declining 23 percent nationwide from 2011 -- after climbing the previous two years. The highest death rates [were] found in the Southeast; the lowest rates [were] in the Northeast.
