Pipeline Safety Meetings coming to Region H

Local pipeline and gas distribution companies are conducting Pipeline Safety meetings in St. Joseph, Maryville, Bethany, Chillicothe, and other locations throughout Missouri. These meetings are intended to provide information to emergency responders and public officials. The meetings are scheduled at various times throughout the coming months.

Region H responders and others are are invited to attend our annual pipeline safety program. In accordance with CFR's 192.615 / 192.616 and 195.403 / 195.440, this program is part of an on-going national effort to increase knowledge of safe digging, damage prevention for underground utilities and emergency responses regarding pipeline emergencies. A meal and presentation will be provided by your local pipeline and gas distribution companies. The following objectives will be covered during the program:

Type(s) of pipeline systems (products) in your area
Pipe location, size and operating pressure(s)
Average emergency response time / response type

Your attendance is important. You will be reminded of how to keep the community safe in regards to pipeline safety. Company representatives may be in attendance as a resource to discuss:

The Office of the Governor and DPS have coordinated with SEMA to schedule six Faith-Based Organization Disaster Initiative Regional Workshops.  These workshops will feature Governor Nixon.  The events will resemble past workshops but will be updated and focus a little more on lessons learned from the Joplin tornado.  The main thrust for these workshops – as in previous workshops – will be to further engage the faith community in key emergency human services (EHS) functions such as mass care, volunteer coordination, long-term recovery, etc.

SEMA Emergency Human Services (EHS) will be sending invitations to the Missouri VOAD, Governor’s Faith-Based and Community Services Partnership for Disaster Recovery, various EHS committees, EMDs, state agencies, faith communities, etc.

Lakeland Industry Whole Sale for Turnout gear

Lakeland Industry in St. Joseph, MO is closing their plant here in St. Joseph.  They have over a pallet full of bunker gear sets that they are wanting sale at whole sale or  at a very cheap to fire departments.  This equipment was reported to be in good working order.

Grant Opportunity: FY2011 Fire Prevention and Safety Grant

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is releasing the Funding Opportunity Announcement and application materials under the Fiscal Year (FY) 2011 Fire Prevention and Safety (FP&S) Grant Program.

The application period for the FY 2011 FP&S Program will open on Monday, April 2, 2012 at 8:00 a.m. EST and will close on April 27, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. EST. In the interim, the FY2011 FP&S Funding Opportunity Announcement, application materials, and Get Ready Guides are currently available for review at www.fema.gov/firegrants.

The Region H Safe Schools Working Group has tentatively scheduled the Safe Schools Summit for Wednesday, August 8th, in St. Joseph, Missouri.
